Friday night, Alpha stage, Lowlands 2026. The tents in Biddinghuizen are packed to bursting as New Wave take the stage for their biggest festival performance in years. Ronnie Flex, Lil Kleine, D-Double, Lijpe and Frenna take turns flawlessly across a setlist packed with tracks that carried a whole generation through secondary school. The crowd knows every word. Every beat. Every ad-lib.
But then, at the end of the show, Lil Kleine grips the mic differently. Calmer. The crowd falls quiet. And then the bombshell drops.

The Ziggo Dome erupts. Tens of thousands of phones go up in the air. By now we know how many there will actually be: not ten, but five shows — still an impressive run, which grew in just a few days from two to five consecutive nights in the largest arena in the Netherlands.
Why New Wave always comes back
Rewind to 2015. On the island of Schiermonnikoog, a songwriting camp brings together a handful of young Dutch artists. What emerges there is more than music: it's a movement. The New Wave album becomes the most-streamed Dutch-language album of the year, wins the prestigious Popprijs and quite literally opens the doors to the mainstream for the whole of Dutch hip-hop.
More than ten years on, the same collective of artists fills the Ziggo Dome five nights in a row — around 75,000 visitors in total in a single week. That's no coincidence. This album shaped a generation.
The All Stars — who's on stage?
The name "New Wave All Stars" says it all: this isn't about one artist playing a solo show. This is the entire collective, together on one stage, in the line-up that changed everything in the Dutch music scene ten years ago.
At Lowlands, the group performed without the iconic wave structure that made their Ziggo Dome shows in February 2026 so visually memorable. The energy was pure, raw and relied on one thing: the music itself. It worked. And if this was the warm-up for 2027, the real show will be on another level entirely.

Nostalgia or relevance?
Some say New Wave "runs on nostalgia". And to be fair, that's partly true. The teenagers who had this album on repeat in 2015 are now in their early twenties or their thirties. They buy tickets, they bring friends along, and they still know every word.
